What is a Cavapoo?

A Cavapoo (also known as a Cavoodle) is a combination of the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and Poodle.

Are Cavapoos Easy to Train?

This is an intelligent breed that can be sensitive so it is important to be patient and not use any harsh training methods. They are fairly easy to train and make great pets for first time dog owners. Basic training should begin as soon as you bring your Bernedoodle puppy home. Just remember that patience and consistency will be key!

How Much Exercise Do Cavapoos Need?

Cavapoos are playful but typically do not need a lot of exercise to keep them happy. Keep in mind that, like any dog, they still need daily mental and physical exercise to keep them happy. For most, this can be done by playing or taking a walk around the neighborhood.

It is important to remember that not all Cavapoos are the same and some may enjoy more or less exercise to keep them happy and healthy!

Cavapoo Temperament

Cavapoos have outgoing and playful personalities while also being smart, friendly, and snuggly! They are sometimes referred to as “velco dogs” and do not do well when left alone for extended periods of time. They love to be with their people and make great individual or family pets!

Do Cavapoos Make Good Family Pets?

Yes! One of the Cavapoo’s most appealing traits is their adaptability and do living in a small apartment as they are in a spacious house with a backyard, provided they get their daily exercise and plenty of interaction with their human companions. This makes them a versatile pet for various living situations and lifestyles. Their size, typically ranging from small to medium depending on the specific parents, also means they are manageable for children to interact with under supervision, fostering a bond between pet and family members.

Moreover, their intelligence and eagerness to please make them relatively easy to train. They respond well to positive reinforcement techniques, such as treats and praise, which also helps in strengthening the bond between them and their family. Their sociable nature means they generally get along well with other pets and are known for being gentle with children. However, as with any breed, early socialization and consistent, gentle training are key to nurturing the most desirable traits in a Cavoodle.

Are Cavapoos Hypoallergenic?

This is a question that we get frequently! Unfortunately, there is so much info out there claiming that all doodles are hypoallergenic which is NOT the case! They are not guaranteed to be hypoallergenic just because one parent is a Poodle and you should be wary of any breeder that tries to tell you that doodles, in general, are such. However, they are typically low to non-shedding making them generally allergy friendly. Especially when you get into the higher generations such as F1b, F1bb, mulitgen, etc.

How Long Do Cavapoos Live?

The life expectancy of a Cavapoo is between 10-15 years. It is important to keep in mind that many factors can affect their life expectancy such as diet, exercise, injury, genetics, etc.

Why Choose a Cavapoo?

The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is known to be a sweet, easy going, companion breed. They do well in most lifestyles as long as their humans are close by or not gone too much. Cavaliers are moderate to heavy shedders and not suitable for those with allergies.

The infamous Poodle of course is non-shedding and is also a highly intelligent and friendly breed. When paired together it is the best of both worlds!

Cavapoos are social butterflies and tend to be a very sweet and sensitive breed taking after both the Cavalier and Poodle. Their small size is great for those who like to travel or those that want a dog but cannot (or do not want to) handle a larger breed.

How Much Do Cavapoos Cost?

The price of a Cavapoo puppy will vary by breeder. Our Cavapoo puppies range from $1,500-$2,500.

Cavapoo Generations Explained

At this time, the most common Cavapoo generations are F1, F1b, F2, and multigenerational Cavapoos.

F1 Cavapoo: An F1 Cavapoo is a 50/50 cross between a Cavalier King Charles and a Poodle.

F1b Cavapoo: is the result of crossing an F1 Cavapoo back to a Poodle. F1b Cavapoos are a mix of 25% Cavalier and 75% Poodle.

F2 Cavapoo: comes from crossing an F1 Cavapoo and another F1 Cavapoo. They are typically very close to 50% Cavalier and 50% Poodle, however, not all puppies in the litter will receive the exact same genetic make up and some may have more of one of the breeds.

Multigenerational (multigen) Cavapoo: is the result of combining two of the above generations (ie an F1 bred to an F2 or an F1b bred to another F1b). Their percentages can be a mixture leaning towards either parent breed. When reputable breeders carefully plan and study their lines, multigens tend to be the most predictable generation when it comes to temperament, coat type, shedding factor, etc.

Cavapoo Appearance

Their irresistible "teddy bear" appearance, characterized by round faces, big expressive eyes, long furry ears, and soft, curly fur, makes them stand out in the doodle world. This unique look not only captures hearts at first sight but also reflects some of the best qualities from their parent breeds.
